This disc shaker comes from the North of Ghana where examples can be found over one metre long. Traditionally used by women to scare birds off their crops, groups of women walking around the fields would shake and turn them, synchronizing their movements and singing in harmony and it became a percussion instrument…it has been made by cutting pieces of gourd and threading them onto a long stick. Approx 40cm in length |
